To Mr. Moonves,
Television was invented to inform us through the news and documentaries as well
as to entertain us. In a free society, the programs that any network
chooses to put on the air should never be censored or attacked those who choose
to air certain programs be attacked for doing so. There is that little
known action that everyone forgets about and it is called turning the channel if
a certain program offends you and your beliefs as well as not purchasing the
products of those that choose to advertise on it.
What I speak in reference to is your
planned airing of the mini-series called “The Reagans”. I feel if those on
the right do not like it that is their right. But, they should not
intimidate a network from airing a program or target its advertisers as they are
now doing through a site
called FreeRepublic.com. When you aired the mini-series, “Hitler, The Rise
of Evil”, I heralded that movie on the Internet and was pleased to see that it
made it onto the Emmy list for best TV movie. That is because I saw many
comparisons in Hitler’s actions to the actions of George W. Bush and the movie
reflected that in my opinion.
By their collective attack upon your network and its advertisers, aren’t they
acting similar to those that Hitler commanded? Aren’t they indeed trying
to hinder free speech? I would say yes to both questions.
In the next couple of weeks NBC is airing a movie about Private Jessica Lynch
who I do not see as a hero, but a victim of spin by this administration and the
Pentagon; I will not pressure NBC not to air it or their advertisers. It
is called freedom of speech and expression. Even if what they portray is
questionable. What I mean by that are the
circumstances of her capture and rescue. Since I feel this way, I will
choose not to watch it.
In closing, Mr. Moonves, please do not give into these fanatics who may not like
what your network presents concerning President Reagan. That is because if
you do, then they have truly won and it will affirm that
censorship is alive and well in America.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mary MacElveen
PS: By the way as far as watching shows for entertainment purposes, I
watch yours the most. Your line-up I feel is truly the must see TV.
