The Hemorrhagic Presidency

Mary MacElveen - July 8, 2005

Since yesterday, I have been trying to come up with a term to describe how I view this presidency since George W. Bush took power and the only term that I could come up with is hemorrhagic.  To me since he seized power and became the president of the United States of America the world came down with Ebola.  Since he took office in 2001, the entire world is bleeding out.  But what I find to be maddening is that no one is calling the world wide C.D.C. to isolate this virus and eradicate it.  What I also find equally maddening is that our newspapers will not run pictures of the wounded in Iraq as they have done for victims of September 11th and now the London attack.  To the western media, I did that job for you.

Back in August of 2001, President Bush was at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.  When he received intelligence warnings he did nothing about it.  I even wrote a piece called “Bush Vacationed While They Planned”.  Within my editorial, I cited where Pres. Bush stated, he did not know that planes could be used as bombs.  I countered that with a commission report on airline safety and security which was chaired by then Vice President Gore.  I urge you to read that full report where you will find the link below this editorial.  Perhaps had Americans rose to the occasion and fought like hell to get Al Gore into the White House, he could have been a vaccine to stop the hemorrhagic virus we are sick with.

After President Bush’s vacation on a bright sunny day on September 11, 2001 America first became infected when death and devastation hit our shores.  We all stood in sheer horror and where we could not believe our eyes.  But, I do not have to go over the horrors we experienced since all of you have a clear memory of that day.  But, this very virus took the lives of 3,000 people.

After that attack, when many believed that Bush was the doctor to fight back against this virus on 9/13/01G.W. Bush, said “The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden.  It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him".  He has been resting for far too long since he has yet to fulfill his promise to America to find him.  We all know his famous quote, “dead or alive”.  Well we would like to know, President Bush is he dead or alive?  I found this quote to be especially disturbing and one that I have used over and over to bring the clueless to their senses.  I remind you again on 3/13/02, Bush said, "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care.  It's not that important. It's not our priority".  One man that I spoke to during last years campaign actually said to me, “I do not think it is important” Yeah, he was one of the clueless or better yet, uncaring.  I wonder if that is how many Bush supporters feel.

After those attacks that befell us, President Bush sent our troops into Afghanistan to fight Al Qaeda as well as to hunt down Osama bin Laden.   On both sides there were many deaths, but we stood shoulder to shoulder with this president since at that time we thought he was going to be the victor or the doctor and bring to us Osama bin Laden.  That did not happen.  So, the bleeding out continues.

What many like me saw was the doctor for who he truly was.  President Bush is the Ebola virus especially when he sent our men and women into Iraq all based on as George Galloway stated, “A pack of lies”. Yet, there are very few calling for this virus to be eradicated from our midst.   As it stands now, the official count of our war dead is a little over 1,700 and our wounded stands at roughly 15,000 according to George Galloway’s testimony in front of the senate subcommittee looking into the oil for food scandal.  But, what astonishes me is that according to his estimates there are now 100,000 Iraqi deaths.

Are you beginning to see a pattern here?  The world is bleeding out and has an Ebola, inflicted upon it by G.W. Bush.  We were beginning to have some effect on calling this president on his many lies and deceptions.  When the Downing Street Memo leaked out to the press, and where several within our congress have brought this memo from the dark into the light.  We were all beginning to tire of this war and support for it is lessening everyday.  So much so that this president was forced to go on national TV and defend his actions and where I wrote a reactive piece to that speech titled, “Bush Brought Death and Destruction to Iraq.  Images Speak for Themselves” This piece has clogged my email box with many supportive letters from around the globe where it is hard to keep up with the responses. But, in this piece, I showed what our press dares to show as mentioned in the beginning of this editorial.  We show the wounded coming from the western world, but not those in the Middle East.

Now we come to July 7, 2005 when a series of bombs took the lives of fifty people in the last count and literally hundreds have been wounded.  We have seen all too clearly what terror looks like, but let us never forget, the same thing can be said for innocent Iraqis who felt the same bombs rain down upon them.

While President Bush is not the elected leader of the U.K. he is seen as the leader of the free world.  Prime Minister Tony Blair has taken his side time and time again.  Prime Minister Blair was correct in calling that attack “barbaric”, but when innocent Iraqis die, we call it, “collateral damage” I am sorry, there is no difference.  A life taken is a life taken.

There have been other attacks around the world during this hemorrhagic presidency and it is suspected that they were caused by Al-Qeada.  So, I ask again—President Bush, just where is Osama bin Laden?  Even a Newsmax article “Bin Laden's Next Strike in U.S.?” and they are usually a Bush friendly news site.  I would like to say to Newsmax, ask President Bush where he is.

What I am trying to convey through this piece my fellow Americans even in light of yesterday’s London attack, we must not waiver and we must continue to ask the tough questions and more importantly demand them.  We must not let an atmosphere return as it did post September 11th where it was unpatriotic to call this president on so many lies.  We truly have a hemorrhagic presidency where we will continue to bleed unless we are steadfast in our resolve to continue fighting this Ebola virus.

On an end note, President Bush is back again at his ranch in Crawford, Texas and not in Washington, D.C. to finally take some real action and bring to us Osama bin Laden.  If he was behind yesterday’s attack in London, he is our priority and where we want him very much alive to face justice.
