Patriots My……….Part I

It’s about time we take back patriotism from the NeoCons. Bush, Cheney and Rove have made a hollow joke of the pride we associate with patriotism. These cynical cowards are not far from reducing the word with which we associate, Patrick Henry and Paul Revere to some sort of American “arbeit mach frei”.

John Kerry put it straight up; “I'm tired of Karl Rove and Dick Cheney and a bunch of people who went out of their way to avoid their chance to serve when they had the chance.” The reality is, these men represent no one but those that seek to wrap themselves in a cloak of phony patriotism while they enforce their globalist agenda of greed and the hollow soulless exploitation of the worlds human and natural resources. Their destructive self serving economic policies have made every person and every nation on earth a victim of these very policies. How dare they call the outraged unpatriotic?

Bush appointed former lobbyists Gale Norton and Steven J. Griles to oversee the industry they used to represent before congress and the white house. In the Ohio Valley of West Virginia, South Eastern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky these former mining industry lobbyists approve more and more mountaintop removal coal mining contracts that every eleven days devastate with virtually the same environmental impact, an area the size of the Hiroshima blast zone. Miles and miles of formerly pristine mountain stream beds have been filled in with the millions of tons of hardwood forest and fertile mountain soil that to them is no more than “overburden” to be striped away uncovering coal seems and discarded. Millions of gallons of acidic, mercury and ridden leachate leaks from multimillion gallon “empoundments” of horribly polluted waste water generated by the coaling process.

Their rage against the natural beauty of our nation to support their myth of cheap energy is antithetical to the idea of patriotism. The American Heritage Dictionary defines patriotic as; “feeling, expressing, or inspired by love for one's country”. Perhaps Mr. Bush would care to explain how his love his country includes the utter destruction of huge swaths one of his countries most beautiful and storied regions fits in with his definition of his espoused love for his country?

These Neo Cons often speak of love of family. They call liberals and others self loathing. How self loathing are these men that they would sell out the health of their progeny and even themselves by taking every opportunity to accelerate the pollution of their land by rolling back protections that enforce responsible practices on the chemical, oil, agriculture, mining and nuclear industries. Then push for their further expansion without standard or any notion of obligation to prevent obvious increases in environmental damage to the health of us, our children, great children and their great grand children.

It is the true patriots of our nation who work these industries who proudly fly the American flag from their porches on the fourth of July, who fight the wars, who give their health and their lives and for these so called patriots who call us traitors for expecting a promise of truth and peace from our leaders or they as they would have it, exploit these true patriots for the sake alone of their personal riches and more riches. While polluting the waters they drink and destroying the forests in which they live and work.

To hold public office and use their position to enhance their personal fortunes above the public trust is a disavowal of the affirmation each and every one of these men swore before taking office. It is disavowal of love for ones county.

Now it has been alleged that George W’s puppet master, vice president Dick Cheney perhaps without even the knowledge of our so-called president revealed plans for his war in Iraq war to Saudi foreign minister, close Bush friend and family business partner Prince Bandar, even before these plans were revealed to his own country.

For whose benefit are we really committing the lives of truly patriotic American soldiers? The Saudis or the Americans these phony patriots in the white house are sworn to serve? It is clear by actions such as these who the Bush family and the Neo Cons really serve. It is not us. It is wealth, oil and those that posses large quantities of both. And these men dare to excoriate us as unpatriotic for our refusal to support their disingenuous unpatriotic agenda.
