Fight Back Against Carl Rove’s Maelstrom of Feculence

J.G. Schwam June 25, 2005

Since the earliest days of the ascension of the neo-cons insurgency on Washington D.C., they have relied heavily on divisive rhetoric to create a sense of superiority over the opposition.  It started with Newt Gingrich attacking the Democrats as anti-free enterprise, bleeding heart, wealth re-distributionists.   Since then the level of discord in our government, at their direction has steadily deteriorated into the fulsome morass of dysfunction in which we are mired today.  Each week, it seems, new lows are reached.

If the tactics doubtlessly orchestrated by Carl Rove did not make the GOP and the White House appear to operate in the high handed arrogant manner characteristic of fascist regimes then the parallels like those drawn by millions before Senator Richard Durbin spoke them publicly would not have arisen in the thoughts of those that oppose his politics of denigration above even a minimal level of consensus.  Whether or not FBI director Mueller has pictures of Durbin in a compromising position with a goat, he should not have backed down, if not for nothing more the simple reason that millions applauded his overdue frankness.

Thursday Carl Rove himself lowered the bar in his denigrate the opposition game by pouring salt on the unhealed wound shared by all Americans, the 9-11 attacks.  Let it be said as loudly as this liberal’s pen can scream, Osama Bin-Laden’s therapy should be life breaking rocks in dank ancient bowels of Leavenworth Federal Prison, for life.

If Durbin was forced to apologize, then we must not back of off Carl Rove.  Rove must be made to pay, daily if necessary for his unprecedented pollution of the public discourse.  His remarks were despicable and if not meant to incite anger alone, will prove to show his true level of misunderstanding of the American mind.  An individual this hateful and removed from reality should not serve as dog catcher much less chief advisor to a president not smart enough to see the damage the cynical game he orchestrates is doing to the fabric of our nation.  For the good of our national soul and the world we must continue to demand that Rove resign.

Senate and House Democrats should have little compunction after years of abuse, attempted marginalization and excoriation at the hands of this sociopath of demanding that his politics of hate, diffusion and derision must end.  Call your Senators and Congressman and tell them you have had enough.  Tell them to demand that Rove resign and demand it again until the White House can stand the drumbeat no more and bends, as they should to the national will.

To a lesser extent, the minority party in the Capitol seems to finally have grown weary enough to fight back with the only option still open to them, procedures and rules, using the same to block the Bolton nomination to the United Nations.  Similar efforts in the public arena are proving successful in the crumbling level of support for the White House’s mysteriously vague social security plan and the presidents own pitiful approval ratings.

It is time for the Democrats to stand and fight against the neo-cons cynical war on real values, respect, consensus and simple decency.  Call your congressman and senators and tell them to stand and fight at every turn against this failing game.  For the first time anger seems to be turning against the GOP and their neo-con puppeteers.  Now is not the time to call for an end to this morass and a return to the quest for the mutual accord previous administrations sought between the parties.  It is time to call them to the carpet at every turn, for every stupid dissonant, derisive and divisive remark.  Sometimes we must raise the bar by pointing out low down it has been drawn so that future debate can take place in environment where anger and disgrace at the conduct of the ruling party is note the defining tone of the national discourse for so many.

Stand and fight Democrats.  Do not let Carl Rove pull our nation any further down into the maelstrom of feculence into which his odious tone and tactics have already drawn us.
